Clinics Collection: “Pain Management: A Multidisciplinary Approach” receives 3 star Doody’s Review rating!
One of Elsevier’s Clinics Collections, “Pain Management: A Multidisciplinary Approach”, received a 3 star rating from Doody’s Review Service.
“The book covers all types of pain conditions, with a focus on chronic pain, although there is a brief chapter on acute pain management. The review of pain physiology and anatomy is quite impressive. Chronic pain conditions in various organ systems are discussed, and all common conditions are reviewed, including complex regional pain syndrome, myofascial pain, neuropathic pain, cancer pain, and a variety of musculoskeletal painful conditions. The section on the head and neck region covers orofacial pain, jaw-related pain disorders, and dental pain. The obstetric section details evaluation of chronic pelvic pain. The best part of the book is its coverage of chronic joint pain and back pain. The way hip, knee, and shoulder pain is systematically covered makes reading the book worthwhile. The section on psychology describes the role of various psychological interventions in helping pain patients and the evidence that supports such interventions. The book is quite brief in reviewing complicated conditions. It discusses all available treatments and is evidence based. Any lack of information is a result of the lack of available science to help manage these complicated conditions.
This is a nice handbook to consult in a busy primary care practice. It will help clinicians help their patients by providing them information about options and interventions they can expect to hear about when they see a consultant. It also arms primary care clinicians with interventions they can try before referring patients to various specialists.” Weighted Numerical Score of 80 out of 100 — 3 Stars!
